Janelle Treibitz is a political organizer, facilitator, and puppeteer who building cultural strategies for social movements. In her role as Creative Engagement Coordinator, she helps coordinate events, convenings, and collaborations which build artist-activist networks and develop new strategic creative projects.
Janelle has 15 years of experience collaborating with local, national, and international social justice organizations and grassroots campaigns, helping them to incorporate culture-based strategies and creative tactics into their work. She co- founded Puppet Underground in Washington, DC, a cultural organizing collective which works across a wide spectrum of issues with grassroots organizing groups including the United Workers, CASA de Maryland, 350.org, Vermont Workers Center, Latino Economic Development Center, and the Fair Budget Coalition, among others. She is a creative direct action trainer with the Beautiful Trouble trainers’ network and has worked for over a decade with the Bread and Puppet Theater. Janelle is a contributor to the book We Are Many: Reflections on Movement Strategy from Occupation to Liberation (AK Press). Janelle holds a BFA in Theater from New York University.
