Amplify Values In These Emerging Issues

Rebuke Administration's Detention Policies
With the rapidly changing asylum-seeker situation at the U.S.-Mexico border, it may seem difficult to keep up on the Trump administration's latest policy maneuvers. Last week, a judge in California ruled that CBP and ICE must adhere to the Flores Settlement which prevents indefinite detention, and must allow the release of children. At the same time, another judge issued a preliminary injunction to stop fast-track deportations. Also last week, the Department of Homeland Security announced that it would no longer release people who arrive at the border with children and are detained. Instead, families seeking asylum will be forced to return to Mexico to wait for their court dates. No matter the development, resist the urge to refute (and repeat) falsehoods. Instead speak from the values of Community, Family Unity, and Economic Security.
