Home Opportunity

Homeownership and the asset development are an essential part of the American dream, as well as a powerful force for creating stable, thriving communities. The Opportunity Agenda and our partners see access to sustainable homeownership for communities of color and working-class families, and the right to benefit from community assets regardless of one’s race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, disability, and sexual orientation or identity as the surest path to broad-based prosperity, as well as essential to fulfilling our national values.

In the wake of the 2008 housing and financial crisis, The Opportunity Agenda led the way on translating complex policy issues--nominations to federal agencies, interpretation of the Fair Housing Act, disparate impact--into straightforward, values-based campaigns. These affirmative policy changes, were essential to rebuilding the American understanding of broad-based homeownership after it was unfairly maligned as being a cause of the crisis.
